Our hearts go out to those affected by hurricane Irma. It is difficult, no doubt, but we are strong, Keys Strong. The landscape and seascape have changed some but we intend a speedy recovery. Key West will be ready soon, and the Lower Keys will be ready in time for winter season.
Our home, furnishings, appliances and vehicles have been destroyed. In short, we've had a major set back, but we intend to rebuild in coming months. We know we can. That said, we could use your support. But, we want to give something too.
Island Design would like to help Keys businesses and individuals get back on their feet by offering our services at half price.
Our boat tour business, Keys Boat Tours will open as soon as Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina is ready for business (mid December).
For those of you who wonder if you should visit the Keys this winter season - yes! Please don't hesitate to book your reservation now, unfortunately 8 Palms will be out of operation for the next few months - we should be ready by the Spring 2018.
If you care to donate, we would appreciate it very much, even $25 means a lot. Visit our YouCaring Fund. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Locally, the storm has brought locals closer together. Sure, it will be harder for some, but we will help those who need us too.
Thank you for supporting the FL Keys. It means a lot - everything!

What Our Guests Are Saying
This is the real deal! The room was nice, basic but clean and there’s everything to accommodate a good nights sleep. It’s quiet yet close enough to the more touristy places. What makes this listing so special is your hosts Brian and Allison, two lovely Big Piners that know just about everything there is to know about the lower keys, they even wrote a book about it! We felt very welcome, they’re so friendly and sincere. We did an amazing adventure of a boat tour that we will never forget. Brian really goes the extra mile and showed us some stuff an average tourist would never see. If you really want to experience the lower Keys, even for a day or two, go here. You will see so much more!Tim Lawson
We had an amazing weekend with Capt Brian. Lots of fantastic adventures on his boat (snorkeling, diving for lobsters, spear fishing, looking for old shipwrecked reefs and boat tour). Capt Brian went out of his way and changed his plans for our accommodation. He is pleasant, patient, and knowledgeable; he provided us with a great time and recommendations for the local area. The free room was a bonus, lots of special extras to make us feel like home. We highly recommend Brian’s place and we will return again in the future. Thanks to both of you for everything, feel like we met old friends; and loved the custom jewelry Allison made for us.Mike Ricker
A fabulous few days spent in “The Keys” with a terrific host, great few hours out on the water with Brian, highly recommend!! If we head back that way would stay again without hesitation!Denise Quinlan
Brian was fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and an all around great guy. We loved the boat trip and the room was totally worth the value!Shannon Gibson
Brian gave us a great boat tour. We saw interesting sea animals. His room was very comfortable. There were clean fresh linens, free water, coffee and organic bug spray as well. Highly recommended.Yuko Yenser
Good place to stay if you want to be at a peaceful place. The Key Deer’s are around the corner and gorgeous. Maybe a bit too small for people who like to have space 😉 The best is the Boat tour with Brian! He is an awesome Captain and will show you a lot.Suat Anil
Brian welcomed me with a wealth of information on the Lower Keys (he wrote a book), and took me out to snorkel on the coral reef! He was also a generous host; the camper was comfortable and well-equipped. I’d recommend Big Pine Key as a great base for anyone interested in exploring nature and local culture in the Lower Keys–it’s tranquil, beautiful and not too far from Key West action. And don’t miss the Keys Boat Tour!Nick Nogood
Great value in the Keys. We enjoyed staying on Big Pine, a nice drive from the hustle & bustle of Key West. We had a great couple of hours out on the boat!Jill Fritsch
